Botox Injections
Botox treatment is an FDA-approved, injectable cosmetic treatment that’s most often used to smooth out wrinkles. Although there still seems to be a stigma surrounding it, millions of people undergo Botox injections every year, so rest assured that it is a very common and safe treatment.
Botox is a well-known treatment that may be used to treat hyperhidrosis and excessive sweating, particularly under the arm. As you age and wrinkles and fine lines make themselves known, Botox can be used to hide and remove them. With smoothed skin, you’ll appear younger and more energized than ever.
How does Botox work?
Botox injections block specific chemical signals from nerves. These signals are the ones that cause your muscles to contract. This way, the injected muscle won’t be able to contract. Your muscles will relax, and this reduces your wrinkles.
Restylane
Restylane fillers use a gel filled with hyaluronic acid to provide immediate results. It’s used to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck, and it’s a long-lasting treatment that can be done as little as twice a year maintain the results you want.
Much like Botox, Restylane is injected through fine needles to remain painless and easy. There are many types of Restylane treatments that can be used, depending on the results that you want and the goals you have in mind.
Injecting Restylane is virtually painless, thanks to the fine needles that are used. When used in combination with a topical numbing agent, you won’t even feel the injection. The treatment itself is quick, so even if you do decide to forgo a numbing agent, any discomfort you feel won’t last long.
Restylane provides immediate results, meaning you’ll walk out of your appointment with an instant image of how your treatment looks. You won’t even have to worry about downtime as Restylane has no required rest or downtime after the injection.
Dysport
Dysport is a third FDA-approved injectable treatment that treats wrinkles and fine lines. It’s extremely similar to Botox and can be used to treat all the same conditions: excessive underarm sweating, fine lines and wrinkles, and even Masseter Muscle Hypertrophy (MMH) for women with square, masculine jawlines.
A great non-surgical option for anyone looking to treat specific conditions, Dysport can help smooth out skin and reduce creases to give you a younger appearance.
Dysport is specifically aimed at treating the creases on your forehead and between your brows: Glabellar lines. For anyone who’s looking to treat this particular type of forehead lines or forehead wrinkles, Dysport is the best option you could choose.
While injected, Dysport prevents the creation of new wrinkles in the areas where it was injected. If you do decide to stop using Dysport, you won’t discover new wrinkles once the injection begins to fade.
Dysport is perfect for those who want natural-looking results as Dysport provides immediate, natural results when used. Results can last up to five months, making it a good option for those who are new to injections and just want to see what they may look like.

Botox vs. Dysport
Botox treatments and Dysport are both very similar. They are both Type A botulinum neuromodulators and work by blocking the nerve signals that tell a muscle to contract. Despite how similar the two may be, they do have their differences that are worth noting.
Dysport is mainly used to treat Glabellar lines between your eyebrows. While it can be used for other facial wrinkles and fine lines, it will not necessarily work better than Botox would.
Botox, on the other hand, has been approved to be used as a treatment for a variety of conditions, including wrinkles and fine lines. Botox is used on all types of wrinkles all over the face and works best for mild to moderate wrinkles.
In terms of how soon you’ll see results, Dysport is quicker. With almost immediate results, Dysport gives you an accurate picture of the results right after your appointment and may continue to improve for up to two days afterwards. On the other hand, Botox will start showing results over a two-week period, after which you’ll see the final results.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is botox?
Botox® is a cosmetic injectable that is injected into the muscles to soften movement and action to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
What is dysport?
Dysport® is an alternative cosmetic injectable to BOTOX that reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other skin imperfections that appear with age.
How does botox /dysport work?
Botox /Dysport is injected directly into the muscles on the patient’s affected areas to effectively block the nerve signals being transmitted along the nervous fibers that signal the muscles in these areas to contract.
How long does botox /dysport last?
A Botox /Dysport treatment typically lasts about 3 to 6 months. As muscle action slowly returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear and need to be treated again. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are shrinking.
Are there any side effects with botox /dysport?
You may see slight swelling or redness around the injection sites, which fades quickly. You only have a few of restrictions: Do not massage the area treated, no strenuous exercise for 24 hours, no hot sun, saunas or excessive heat for 72 hours, and avoid alcohol and salty foods to limit swelling. Botox carries some risk of bruising around the injection site.
How can I prepare for botox?
It’s best to avoid alcohol starting at least 1 week before the procedure. You should also stop taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications 2 weeks before treatment to help prevent bruising.
Is botox /dysport painful?
Some may say that it is mildly uncomfortable upon injection, however other patients report that they don’t feel the treatment being administered. Some areas tend to be more sensitive than others.
Who should not get botox /dysport?
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to any of the ingredients, you are not a candidate.
What should I expect after a botox /dysport treatment?
The results appear in about 7 to 14 days, so if you have an upcoming event and want to look your best, plan your treatment at least two weeks in advance. When treating fine lines and wrinkles, a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles should result once the treatment takes effect. Follow up or alternative treatments may be necessary if further correction is desired.
Avoid rubbing the injection site for 24 hours so you don’t spread the Botox to another area. Your doctor may also tell you to stay upright for 4 hours after the shots and to take a day off from exercising.
